The Rock.

It's hard to fully and completely understand what Team Gushue has meant to Newfoundland and Labrador over the past 20 years, what home means to the team and what curling means for both of them.

If you're a fan of stories that feel too good to be true but somehow are, Brad Gushue's brilliant career has it all.

In Torino 2006, Team Gushue became the first Newfoundlanders to win an Olympic Gold medal with a remarkable six points in the sixth end to beat Finland 10-4.

In anticipation of the history-making match, schools in the province were closed in the afternoon to allow students to watch.

And Team Gushue delivered.

Gushue made his first of 18 appearances at the Brier in 2003 but he wouldn't claim his first title until 2017 on home ice in St. John's.

He and the team of Mark Nichols, Brett Gallant and Geoff Walker went on to win the gold medal for Canada at the 2017 World Championships.

After winning a second straight Brier title in 2018, Gushue went to the World Championships again, coming home with the silver medal.

After winning the Olympic Trials over Team Jacobs, Gushue made his second Olympic appearance.

With a 5-4 record in the round robin, the team played the reigning World Champions from Sweden in the semifinals.

Following the loss, Team Gushue rebounded to defeat the defending Olympic Champions from the United States 8-5 in the bronze medal game.

With Team Canada's perfect record of winning a medal at every Olympics intact, the team returned home to a hero's welcome.

"It feels great. The last six, seven weeks have been quite an adventure for our team, but it's always great to come home," Gushue told reporters inside the St. John's International Airport.

Just a couple of weeks after returning home, still battling the fatigue of Beijing 2022, they entered the Brier as the first wildcard.

Heading into the final weekend they were dealt a blow when third and vice-skip Mark Nichols tested positive for COVID-19.

Without an alternate, Gushue, Gallant and Walker were forced to compete as a three-man team in the playoffs.

The trio managed to defeat Team Flasch in the page playoff and Team Bottcher in the semifinal setting up a glorious final against defending champ Team Koe from Alberta.

After trading points with plenty of scoring, the final needed an extra end and the short-handed Team Gushue won 9-8.

Gushue joined Koe and three others tied with four Brier titles each as a skip.

Let the greatest-of-all-time debate begin.

Team Gushue went on to win a silver medal at the World Championships and capped off an historic 2021-2022 season with a Grand Slam of Curling Champions Cup.

In 2023, Team Gushue delivered a fifth Brier title over the previous seven years.

With Olympic gold and bronze medals 16-years apart, a World Championship title and two silver medals, and a record five Brier titles, it seems that the GOAT debate, at least for is now, is settled:

Brad Gushue stands alone atop the curling world.
